MARSHFIELD CRICKET CLUB SIX-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT
Blessed with the first dry day in a while, the Marshfield Cricket Club Super Sixes was the most successful to date.
With ten teams entering, including a side from fellow Glos/Wilts Div 1, Goatacre and also Welsh touring side, Pembroke Dock, expectations were high. There were also the usual colourful Marshfield entrants including The Farmers, The Emus, The Pirates of No Pants, The Ladies and Bears Ba Bas.
Two groups of 5 teams began the day and there was some competitive, if light hearted, cricket played - well it is difficult to play serious cricket dressed in Emu outfits! Who can forget Sam Johnston's batting dressed as an Emu or the sight of Dave Jenkins charging into bowl dressed as a milk maid?! (Great legs, Dave.)
It boiled down to the semi finals of Bears Ba Bas (dressed as life guards - well some of them - and skippered by Rupert Crockett) versus The Farmers (skippered by James Williams and including the usual Marshfield renegades); and Stalin and Gash (Chris Ruddell's circus-style nutters) versus The Goats (Goatacre CC). These were keenly fought matches and the big hitting final of The Farmers versus The Goats was eagerly awaited. The Goats ran out winners thanks to good batting from Steven Gee and Jiff Wilkins which ensured a total just out of reach for The Farmers and saw them lift the much coveted Six A Side trophy.
